Cat Lake | Managing Editor
Cat is the Founder and Managing Editor of New Forest Community Media.
She is a ‘Black Country’ girl but now lives in the New Forest. She is a percussionist, specialising in the Bodhran (Irish Frame Drum), also plays a Roland V-Drum kit.
Cat (which is short for Catherine) first fell in love with radio when she was young. She spent many a night lay in bed listening to Radio Luxemburg on a radio with an earpiece under the pillow.
She started out in third sector broadcasting when she joined her local Hospital Radio Station in the West Midlands – Radio Wulfrun in Wolverhampton – where she progressed from ward-walker to presenter of her own show within just nine months.
She also hosted the station’s annual Summer Fayre one year and vividly remembers being challenged to read out the weeks pogramme schedule whilst being sent round in a gyroscope ride. She succeeded too!
Whilst moving around the country, stopping in Norfolk for a year before heading down south to the New Forest, Cat worked at stations such as Hospital Radio Norwich; BBC Radio Norfolk; Radio Cracker; Hope FM; Radio Link (now New Forest Hospital Radio) and Forest FM in Verwood before launching The Park, the New Forest’s Community Radio Station, back in 2009.
Cat was also an avid CBer before passing her C&G Amateur Radio exam at 16-years-old. Although she doesn’t have any equipment at the moment she still has her licence today.
